Guangzhou University of TCM has increasingly kept in touch with foreign friends and received visitors from all over the world since 2001. The visitors including different levels such as foreign dewans, college professors, foreign higher educational students, and folk medical academic societies, aim at giving lectures, research, visiting, cooperation negotiation, short-term training, student cultural communication, international conferences, ect.
In 2001, the total number of visitors from 20 countries and regions including Japan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, America, Canada, Columbia, France, Italy, South Africa, Liberia, Malta , Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, is 691 of 30 groups. Mostly, the visitors are medical academic societies from different countries and regions, and several government officers.
In 2002, the total number of visitors from 15 countries and regions including Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Ethiopia, America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Ireland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, is 539 of 32 groups.
In 2003, the total number of visitors from 7 countries and regions including Mauritius, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, is 196 of 20 groups. Mostly, the visitors are TCM academic societies and college presidents. The number of visitors reduced , influenced by SARS in 2003.
In 2004, the total number of visitors from 20 countries and regions including Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Britain, Ireland, Chile, American, delegation of Africa, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, is 633 of 31 groups.
In 2005, the total number of visitors from 23 countries and regions including American, Canada, Chile, Argentina, Britain, France, Ireland, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, is 720 of 36 groups.
From January to March in 2006, the total number of visitors from 16 countries and regions including American, Canada, Chile, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Australia, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, is 189.
In conclusion, recent years, Guangzhou University of TCM has attached great importance to the international communication, which helps to raise the international reputation, and foreign dewans come one after another. Pham Gia Khiem, Vice Premier of Vietnam visited our university on November 5, 2004. Compbell Newman, Mayor of Brisben, Australia visited our university on October 11, 2004, leading with 23 business friends. Suwa Vanasne, President of Thailand Congress Commons Public Healthy Committee visited Guangzhou University of TCM on December 1, 2004, leading 31 people. Jan Boye, Nomarch of Phiying, Denmark had an informal discussion and interview with Guangzhou University of TCM on September 29, 2005, leading governmental business trade delegation of 21 people, companied by Nei Yunan, Vice-governor of Guangdong Province. Ni Yuzhong, Undersecretary of Vietnam Healthy Department paid a visit to Guangzhou University of TCM on March 8, 2006, leading medical delegation of 10 people.

Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the oldest colleges of its kind in China and is governed directly by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is located at Sanyuanli, near the foot of Baiyun Mountain in Northern Guangzhou. The campus of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine covers an area of about 400,000 square meters and has a building area of about 290,000 square meters (including the affiliated hospitals). The Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was Guangzhou College of TCM until February 1995, till the State Educational committee approved the transition to university status.
The Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine consists of two Departments of Medicine, the Departments of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Department of Chinese Materia Medica, Basic Science and Social Science, and the Affiliated Middle School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Seven branches have been designated as the doctoral degree – granting units, and 22 branches as the master’s degree – granting units. The Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine offers seven specialties for undergraduates, including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Chinese Materia Medica, Orthopedics and Traumatology, ENT and Ophthalmology of TCM, TCM Literature and Resources of Chinese Materia Medica.
A seven-term undergraduate and postgraduate Traditional Chinese Medicine class and a two-term Traditional Chinese Medicine class for the second bachelor degree for professionals of Western Medicine have been held since 1991 and 1992, respectively. At present, the total number of the faculties and staffs is more than 3,000, and about 400 of them hold senior titles of professional posts and over 700 of them hold intermediate level. There are more than 2,000 full-time students studying at the Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, including undergraduates, postgraduates, foreign students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Continuing education includes evening, correspondence and self-paced classes have also been held.
