Central South University has achieved international prestige in the past years .Due to the productive staff,high level of scientific research and activity in conducting scientific and technological cooperation with other countries,international exchange programs are multiplying . Central South University has agreements on bilateral exchanges and cooperation with more than 100 universities ,and has established academictries and reseach ties with over 300 institutes in about 30 countries and regions. Every year,several hundred scholars and experts from many parts of the world are invited to the Central South University to give lecturesand do joint research. A number of long-term foreign language experts and teachers are employed to help improve the university’s teaching of foreign languages. On the other hand , several hundred staff members of the Central South University are sent abroad, or to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan for further learning, lecture giving, international conferences and symposiums or joint research. Central South University  is a comprehensive and national key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education in China. Central South University was established in April, 2000 on the basis of the amalgamation of the three former individual universities, namely Central South University of Technology, Hunan Medical University and Changsha Railway University. Central South University is situated in Changsha, Hunan. Gao Wenbing is secretary of the Communist Party of China’s Central South University Committee, and Prof.Huang Boyun, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, is president of Central South University. The fields of study at Central South University cover 10 branches of learning, namely engineering, science, medicine, management, literature, law, economics, philosophy, education and history. The Central South University now offers 76 undergraduate programs, 282 master’s programs and 142 doctoral programs. Central South University has 22 postdoctoral exchange centers, 6 key national disciplines of first level, 12 key national disciplines of second level, a key national (developing) discipline, 4 national key laboratories and national engineering centers, 5 national training and teaching bases. Among its faculty members, there are 3 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 12 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 578 doctoral supervisors, 850 full professors and 1663 associate professors. At present, the total number of full-time students at Central South University has reached more than 50,000. Central South University has full-time college students 33800, graduate students 15796, overseas students 408. The faculty-student ratio is about 1:8. Among its faculty members, there are 3 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 13 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). Wang Dianzuo is an academician of both Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. There are also 2 decreased academicians.
